Renowned for his pioneering contributions to cinema and cultural diplomacy, Raj Kapoor remains an enduring figure whose films continue to resonate with audiences across the world—including in Mauritius, where his legacy is deeply cherished.
Mauritius has been specially chosen for this celebration due to its profound cultural and historical ties with India. With a vibrant Indian-origin population and a longstanding admiration for Indian cinema, Mauritius represents a natural and emotionally significant venue to honor Raj Kapoor. His films have played a vital role in shaping cultural identity and fostering a sense of connection among generations of Mauritians.
The event will feature a rich tapestry of cultural programming, including screenings of Raj Kapoor’s iconic films, exhibitions showcasing rare photographs and memorabilia, thematic panel discussions with cultural scholars and film experts, and live performances of music and dance inspired by his artistic legacy.
Guided by the leadership of Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Hon’ble Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas (Chairman), and supported by Shri Manoj Tiwari, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, and acclaimed filmmaker Shri Rahul Rawail (Vice Chairmen), the Mauritius celebration is envisioned as a heartfelt tribute to a cinematic icon. It will serve as a powerful reminder of the cultural bonds that unite India and Mauritius, while celebrating the universal language of storytelling through film.
